- Get into a fight with Darkone traders
After the encounter with the bats, the party carefully make their way down the steep scree slop to the cavern floor. They had previsouly ascertained that as long as they weren’t bloodied the doomspores would not attack. The party took a short rest and healed.
They then made their way through the tunnels, Boris leading the way with his light source, until Bush cracked a sunrod. As the sunrods light showed an opening into another chamber the party noticed that the light was dimmed in a large radius…
“A savage howl echoes up the stairs as you approach. A lantern is burning somewhere beyond, giving a glimpse of a finished stone chamber set with marble flagstones. This odd-shaped chamber extends outward in three sections, and it is about 60 feet wide at its end. Though its frescoed walls suggest a sort of temple, it resembles a storeroom now, with boxes and crates stacked in piles. In the center of room stands an enormous open stone archway. Adjacent to it is a large steel cage on a low cart, somehow obscured in shadow. Within the cage, two fierce hounds appear to be wrapped in darkness as they snarl and claw at the floor.”
The escaped ShadowHunter Bat was waiting to attack them. Combat ensued.
During the combat may of the party are within dim light (lightly obscured) squares without low-light vision, suffering a -2 to attack. The Hounds use their teleportation powers to try and ambush the party. The Paladins help control the field with Divine Sanctions whilst the mages laydown damaging fire. Bramble makes good use of twin attacks to keep the presure on. During the battle 3 Dark Creepers and a Shadar-Kai witch reveal themselves and join the attack.
The combat finishes and the party examine the room and take a short rest.
They notice that faded images adorn the walls, most appearing to show humans in the act of worshipping faint, shadowy creatures. Burnt rolls an amazing check an gleans the following;
The black stone archway is a semicircle 30 feet in diameter and 15 feet high. Silver crystals are set within the stone in a random pattern. Runes in Common cover it. They identify the arch as an ancient shadar-kai teleportation portal. The portal acts as a permanent teleportation circle, affecting any creature or object that passes through it from either side. If the archway is touched, its interior displays a view into a darkened warehouse stacked high with crates and boxes. The party notice that the cage the Hounds escaped from was being pushed towards this archway.
The bodies are searched and other than black garments and daggers the group find another key identical to Modra’s
